Welcome
to Our School!
Roosevelt School is a three story, brick
building located in Council Bluffs, Iowa. The school was named after
Theodore Roosevelt, the 25th President of the United States.
Roosevelt was built in 1907. Additions were added in 1912, 1923, and
1953. On February 14, 1966 a fire destroyed all but the section that was
added in 1953. A new addition was added in 1968. During the past three
years, several improvements have been made to the building, including
central air conditioning, a new heating system, an upgrade in electrical
work, and plumbing/remodeling of restrooms.
Roosevelt has 47 teachers and almost 500
pre-school through 6th grade students. There are many programs
for students – a Library/computer lab, a Challenge Center, a guidance
program, and many after-school activities. Roosevelt has a very active
Booster Club. In 2000, the Booster Club purchased new playground equipment
and in 2003 a new sign was added in front of the building. Plans are
underway for continued updating of the playground which will include a shade
structure.
Roosevelt’s building goal is the
improvement of reading comprehension and math skills. To aid in this
endeavor, we have established a school-wide reading program and an emphasis
on frequent assessment of Math skills. In addition, teachers participate in
weekly staff development sessions, improving their skills in assessing and
teaching these areas.
Roosevelt students are well-behaved and
take their learning very seriously. An excellent teaching
staff, well-mannered students, and supportive parents make for a good
school.
