Rue Students Participate in           Some Good Green Fun      Rue Elementary students showed their love for our planet and helped donate to a good cause during Rue’s celebration of Earth Week. Throughout a week of environment friendly activities, students voted for the staff member they most wanted to see kiss a tree by adding money to each person’s bucket. The “winning” staff members puckered up at the Kiss-A-Tree finale on Friday, April 29th. The Earth Club raised a total of $277 by selling Earth Day t-shirts and hosting the Kiss-A-Tree contest. $150 will be donated to the Mapleton, Iowa Tornado Relief Fund and $127 will be used to beautify school grounds.      Congratulations to the top five winners: Mrs. Hans, Mrs. Evans, Ms. Hailey, Mrs. Steckis, and Mrs. Castellano.

Small Idea Achieves Huge Success                 5th Grade Challenge Program students at Rue Elementary held a fundraiser for S.O.L.A.S. to benefit the animals at the Council Bluffs Animal Shelter.  The original idea came from two girls, Josey Starner and Rachel Woods, who wanted to organize a community service project as their personal goal for the year.  The entire 5th grade TAG class voted to help them make their dream a reality.  The event, held on Saturday, May 14th, raised $443.00 for S.O.L.A.S.  The money will be used for a dog kennel sponsorship at the C.B. Animal Shelter.  Congratulations on a job well done!
